Wall-to-wall street art in Mulhouse

Street art is an age-old tradition in Mulhouse. It dates back all the way to the 16th century when façades were embellished with large decorative frescoes, as seen on the elegant houses on Place de la Réunion. Today's artists are still driven by the desire to consistently beautify the city with, most often, ephemeral art. Around every corner, works adorning the walls of the Mulhouse surprise visitors, locals, and passers-by alike. Anything and everything can be used as a support for this art form: mailboxes, signs, and even the ground.

Is it art that changes our perspective on the city or the other way around? In Mulhouse, both are true

Take a journey through Europe’s largest railway collection

The carriage from the first paid holidays, the one for the president of the French Third Republic, and the one decorated for Napoleon III,.night trains for carrying mail or supplying the markets of the cities. And then there are also trains for the military, or ones used as ambulances. With more than a hundred trains, the Cité du Train - SNCF Heritage is an extraordinary journey that tells the history of the railroad.

It is also a poetic experience, where you can have fun matching the silhouettes of the locomotives to the nicknames given by the railway workers: pig nose, Picasso, shoebox, and billy goat.

All aboard

Wake up the residents at the Mulhouse Zoo and Botanical Park

The best time to visit this wildlife refuge in the heart of Mulhouse is early in the morning, when the residents of the zoo wake up to start a new day. Alongside veterinarians and keepers, visit the enclosures to find out what everyone is up to. The gibbon is calling out to tell to his neighbours that he’s out of bed, the zebras are waltzing over to their plate of hay, the groggy tigers are taking their first steps, and the pelicans are enjoying their food. After these encounters, finish the visit with a lovely breakfast.
