Culinary traditions

When it comes to sweet and savoury culinary traditions, Alsace is known for its unique treats prepared especially for the Easter holidays. One of the gourmet highlights is the Paschal lamb or "Lämmele" found on every family's table. This dessert is a spongy cake sprinkled with icing sugar and decorated with a ribbon around the neck and is traditionally baked in a terracotta mould from Soufflenheim.

Gourmet strolls

In spring, everyone seems to have the same irresistible desire to get out of the house and enjoy the warmth of the first rays of sunshine.

It's the ideal time to explore the stalls of Alsace's traditional and artisanal markets. Fill your basket with authentic products and take the time to chat with local artisans who gladly share their expertise.

Colmar's spring market is definitely worth a visit. For three weeks, the brightly coloured city comes to life with events and guided tours.

Get your fill of events

Easter has lots of characters and symbols: chickens, bells, rabbits... Who will be hiding the Easter eggs this year? In Alsace, that job goes to the Easter hare, named “Oschterhaas”.

During the egg hunts, follow the chocolaty aromas in search of little Easter sweets. Awaken your senses as a family enjoying a fun outing and sharing a sweet harvest.

Traditional decorations

In Alsace, everyone dusts their houses during the big spring cleaning called "Osterputz".

The homes are then ready to welcome Alsace's traditional seasonal decoration, the Easter tree, made of flowering branches adorned with painted eggs.

Admire the talents of the locals and … maybe even make your own!

Back in shape

Just like hibernating bears, winter is a time when our bodies take a well-deserved rest. After a season of feasting on hearty, good-for-the-soul dishes, it's time to get back in the saddle.

Spring is the season for taking care of yourself, both mentally and physically. Treat yourself to spring vegetables like asparagus, beetroot, and dandelion.
In Alsace, we cultivate the art of eating well, even small dishes that are perfectly balanced, light, and always gourmet.

As for exercise: running, cycling, hiking, or a walk in a park are great ways to gradually wake up the body all while breathing in the fresh air.
