Go thrill-seeking at Eaux Vives Park, Huningue

With canoeing, kayaking, rafting, river boarding and stand-up paddle, the river is your playground! It’s lovely and cool and of course, the staff are on hand to make sure everyone stays safe. This is a really original experience - it’s not every day you visit a town in Alsace by shooting the rapids. And as a bonus, the more you do, the better you get!

Challenge yourself with the dizzying activities at Alsace’s adventure parks

Want to push your limits? There are eight sites spread across Alsace where you can climb to the treetops. Fancy a ropes course? Head for Orbey or Kruth. What about summer tobogganing? Go to Markstein. To choose from paintballing, climbing, downhill mountain biking and more, make Lac Blanc your destination. Want to jump from the 35-metre-high Tour de l’Extrême (ages 12 and over)? It’s at Breitenbach. And those are just a few ideas. There are certainly no excuses for being bored this summer!

Visit fairytale castles

With its impressive drawbridge, you’ll recognise Hohlandsbourg Castle at a glance. It’s the perfect place for a family adventure to transport you back to the Middle Ages.

At Fleckenstein castle, the highly original “Château des Défis” tour makes a visit great fun. You’ll need to pull together as a family as you solve the puzzles and take part in life-sized challenges.

Last but certainly not least, awe-inspiring Haut-Koenigsbourg castle offers a sweeping panorama of the plains below. No wonder the director of the Lord of the Rings film drew on it for inspiration. All aboard for a unique adventure!

Escape the twenty-first century at Volerie des Aigles, Kintzheim

Walk into the ruins of Kintzheim Castle flet the show begin: see eagles, vultures, black kites, falcons, buzzards, owls and other raptors from every continent swooping and diving, wheeling and gliding in the sky above you. The 40-minute spectacle is packed with surprises and there’s an emphasis on audience interaction. If we’ve whetted your appetite, you can also book an outstanding full-day experience to get up close and personal with the raptors.

Meet the Barbary macaques at Monkey Mountain

As you walk into the forest, appreciate the beautiful setting: the monkeys roam free in an environment that’s close to their natural habitat. You can watch them walking almost alongside you, climbing the trees, eating fruit and grooming each other. If you have a question, ask any of the staff who are available all along the route. There’s also a quiz for families. Throw all your ideas into the hat and you’ll soon have answered the questions and earned your prize! Once you’ve finished visiting the monkeys, head for the play areas so that the children can burn off any remaining energy.

Pan for gold at Benfeld gravel quarry

Imagine yourselves as a family of gold panners as you paddle in the river. But could you really find gold? Yes, with a bit of practice you could! Swirl the water slowly and carefully so that the sand drifts upwards. Look out for the specks of gold glinting in the sunlight. Mum, dad, come and look, we’re rich!
