First mentioned in 1434 as Newilr, Neuviller-la-Roche belonged to the rulers of Ban de la Roche before becoming part of the Vosges department in 1793. The village was made part of annexed Alsace and so of Germany in 1871. It became part of the French department of Bas-Rhin after 1918. It was renamed Neuviller-la-Roche in 1961.
