The Michelbach nature reserve

" Take the 4-km walking trail between the forest and the edge of the lake as you discover numerous species of birds. Stop at the observatories and take the time for a break on one of the benches along the trail to admire the splendid views. "

Built from 1979 to 1982, the dam regulates the water table and ensures the supply of drinking water to the Mulhouse conurbation and its surroundings. It is a protected area, classified as an approved voluntary nature reserve. The Mulhouse water department and the Michelbach dam's mixed syndicate manage and operate the infrastructures. A 4km walking trail (about 1h30 walk) allows you to discover and observe numerous species of birds that nest there or are just passing through (cormorant, osprey, crow, etc.). The Vosges summits such as the Rossberg, the Thannerhubel, the Markstein or the Grand Ballon stand out on the horizon. Guided tours are organised during the summer season by the Thann-Cernay Tourist Office.
