Sainte Marie aux Mines

Divided in the Middle Ages, by a side of Lorraine and an Alsatian side, Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines develops with the activity of silver mines, which knows its age of ôr in 16th century. In 19th century, the textile industry takes over from the mining, and specializes in fabrics(tissues) with fiber mixed and wool. Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines welcomed finally numerous religious communities welcomed on the territory. It is in particular the cradle of the Amish movement, been born here in 1693, and possesses one of the oldest French reformed temples
