" In the early 20th century, the discovery of a potash deposit near Mulhouse marked the beginning of a century of mining history. The Potash Route will take you on a tour of sites that are emblematic of this adventure, which has shaped the landscape of the potash basin. "

On June 11th 1904, a potash deposit was found in Wittelsheim. It indicates the start of a century of mining history: 24 wells, 11 mines, 222 km² of mined subsoil, more than 560 million ton of salt and up to 13,880 employed miners.
The potash route, launched in May 2017, allows you to discover noteworthy sites (Mines Joseph Else, Marie-Louise, Rodolphe and Theodore) as well as mining towns and representative places of this mining adventure that shaped the landscape of this potash area.

The Potash route can also be followed with your smartphone with the CIRKWI app. And you can also find it here: Circuit route de la potasse (in French only).
