One of the gems of the wine country, on the Wine Route, between Riquewihr (1 km) and Ribeauvillé (3 km), a picturesque village with approximately 400 inhabitants, perched on a hill amid the vineyards, Zellenberg (altitude 285 m) is a charming place, with old houses, small, narrow streets and tinkling fountains.
A historical tour takes visitors back to the time when Zellenberg was a town, the seat of a bailiwick belonging to the Lords of Ribeaupierre. Remains of the fortifications still stand.
The marked wine trail enables visitors to discover the two local Grands Crus, Froehn and Schoenenbourg. The walks around the hill afford an exceptional view of the Plain of Alsace and the Vosges.
The local winegrowers offer a range of Alsace wines, tours of cellars and wine tastings.
Bed-and-breakfast accommodation, gîtes, hotels, restaurants, the intermunicipal campsite and mobile shops are available to visitors. A welcoming, handsomely flowered village sometimes called 'Little Toledo', Zellenberg is an ideal starting-point for visiting the region.

Do not miss :
The two corner towers of the former town ramparts (1252), with their stork's nest.
The 1760 church, dedicated to St. Ulrich, with a mediaeval Pieta.
At the entrance of the old part of the town, the carved wooden Christ by Paul Windecker (1508).
The warning bell (1445) on the former watch house.
The remains of the fortified ramparts and the timber-framed houses.
The local wines and fruit brandies.
