Ill*Wald, Nature Reserve

Stroll through one of France's largest regional nature reserves. Its diverse natural environments foster a wide variety of plant and animal species.

Covering an area of approximately 1,855 hectares, Ill*Wald, one of the largest regional nature reserves in France, preserves a landscape mosaic made up of a vast alluvial forest, hay meadows and reed beds, whose specific characteristics and richness are due to the omnipresence of water.

Travelled by a dense hydrographic network, the Ried lives at the rhythm of annual floods, consequences of rising groundwater levels and the floods of the Ill. This diversity of natural environments results in a wide variety of plant and animal species. The walker can also hope to surprise, along the way, some individuals from the largest wild deer population in France.

Due to the chalarose of ash, access to the forest is limited, risks of falling branches/trees persist despite the road safety work already carried out. For this reason, traffic in the forest is prohibited in windy conditions.
