Blacksmithing and basketry demonstration

" As part of the Journées Patrimoine de Pays et des Moulins, the Maison de la Manufacture d'Armes Blanches will be relighting its forge to show you how blades were made, and Emma Pieters will be delighted to introduce you to wickerwork. "

The Maison de la Manufacture lights up its forge to bring back to life the gestures of the old workers of the "Vallée des Lames". Discover the transformation of steel, the trades of the old manufactory, the collections of weapons and tools...

Until the early 17th century, there were no manufactories in France that forged blades for edged weapons. French bladesmiths imported most of their blade supplies from Solingen (Westphalia, a region of Germany).

Louis XV decided to remedy this situation. The Secretary of State for War, former Intendant of Alsace, Nicolas Prosper Bauyn d'Angervilliers was commissioned to establish a bladed weapons factory in the Kingdom of France so that it would no longer depend on Solingen for its weapons supplies; this would be in Klingenthal.

On the occasion of the Rural Heritage and Mills Days on 23 June 2024 , from 14:00 to 18:00, you can also visit the basket weaving demonstrations by Emma Pieters.
