Le moulin d'Eschviller à Volmunster

Beautiful and powerful, a paddle wheel has been brought back into service on the site of the former mill at Eschwiller. Like its predecessors, dependent on the rhythm of the Schwalb River, diverted by a millrace, it operates a mechanism and then a heavy grinding-stone. Sifted, the grind thus obtained will become pure white flour. These reconstituted elements are part of an exhibition designed to show the significance of cereals, of bread and of the technological evolution of the milling industry which, here and elsewhere, enabled the local population to survive, and later to have enough to eat. The educational sawmill is also well integrated into the landscape. Be impressed by the drive and transmission mecanisms, from the paddle wheel to modern machines. Thanks to interactive models or the running of machinery, an enthusiast guide will reveal to you an activity practised in the region since the 17th century, from logging to the use of boards. Relax in this wonderful site, located on the cross-border mill biking trail. Walk along the nature trail or choose to study water instead of trees. Visit the demo orchard and see the shaggy hairy and long-horned Highland cattle who maintain this valley clean.
