Colmar International Festival : French excellence: Fauré, Saint Saens

" The largest classical music festival in Alsace. "

TRIO TALWEG "Bewitching phrasing, a spellbinding fusion of timbres" (ConcertoNet), "dazzling and refined" (Diapason), "a balance on the edge, between control and abandonment" (Classica), the Talweg are 3 outstanding musicians brought together here for a programme of Fauré and Saint-Saëns. Contemporaries, both French, Saint-Saëns and Fauré nevertheless followed two very different aesthetic paths. While the elder Saint-Saëns remained throughout his life a fervent defender of a certain idea of classicism and clarity of form and harmony, Fauré was, on the contrary, the man through whom Impressionism crept into music. So it's a fine idea for the Talweg Trio to invite us to discover with them how their two Trios for piano and strings respond to each other, some thirty years apart. Saint-Saëns's trio combines majesty of purpose and instrumental refinement, while Fauré's, a late and almost testamentary work, imposes a more intimate language, rich with exceptional emotional depth. One of the most brilliant monuments of chamber music! PROGRAM G. Fauré, Trio in D minor op. 120 C. Saint Saens, Trio n.2 op.92
