Colmar International Festival : Baroque splendours

" The largest classical music festival in Alsace. "

FREIBURGER BAROCKORCHESTER DIRECTION AND VIOLIN : GOTTFRIED VON DER GOLTZ PIANOFORTE : KRISTIAN BEZUIDENHOUT Kristian Bezuidenhout is one of a third generation of pianists to play Mozart on the fortepiano, from the first steps of Paul Badura-Skoda through those of Jos van Immerseel to the very fine recordings of Andreas Staier. He has thus benefited from 50 years of research into early instruments and how to play them. The fortepiano, considered to be a thankless and complicated instrument, imposes many limits on its performers, limits that Kristian Bezuidenhout has overcome, succeeding in sublimating the instrument both technically and imaginatively. The programme for this concert includes 2 Mozart concertos: the famous Concerto No. 9 'Jeunehomme' and the poetic Concerto No. 17 with the Freiburger Barockorchester conducted by Gottfried von der Goltz. The programme is rounded off by Johann Christian Bach's brilliant Symphony in G minor, already very Sturm und Drang in character, and Joseph Haydn's highly modern Symphony No. 74. PROGRAM J. Haydn, Symphony No. 74 in E flat major Hob. I:74 W.A. Mozart, Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major, K. 453 J.Chr. Bach, Symphony in G minor, Op. 6 No. 6 W.A. Mozart, Piano Concerto No. 9 in E flat major "Jenamy" KV 271
