Rothmoos Marshes and Heaths

Located in the Nonnenbruch potash basin, the reserve is home to a variety of natural environments combining forests, dry moors and wetlands. An old slag heap, which has been ecologically rehabilitated by the Potash Mines, is also included in the perimeter and gives rise to original saline environments. After a century of mining on the site, nature has reclaimed its rights and is gradually colonising each area. The mining subsidence resulting from the exploitation of potash in the subsoil has led to the appearance of wetlands linked to the outcrop of the Alsace water table. A walking trail takes you on a discovery of these natural environments, their fauna and flora.
