Hiking circuit - tour of the 4 lakes

Set course for 4 lakes in the Vosges Massif. Among the many possible hikes, this one is both a great sporting challenge and an extraordinary getaway to satisfy the desires of mountain walkers. With a distance of 17km and varying between 955m and 1306m of altitude, this circuit shows you all the richness of the altitude landscapes and its lakes of great beauty. You will see a lot of different colours.

First, discover the Lac Blanc from its natural terrace. In front of you, a real postcard landscape. Walk along the ridge to prolong the moment with the breathtaking view. Then take the famous GR5 (red rectangle), which will take you to the summit of the Gazon du Faing at 1306m. Continue on this same path. The panorama allows you to observe the mountainous summits of the Vosges Massif such as the Hohneck, the Grand Ballon but also the Alsace plain and the Black Forest and sometimes even the Bernese Alps chain.
This section also offers you one of the most beautiful views of the Trout Lake from the heights.

A few hours later, you will reach the edge of the ridge road and descend to the green lake. It is named after its natural setting surrounded by a forest of fir trees whose colour is reflected in the water.

Continue the hike up towards the trout lake that you have already seen from above. The path leads to a unique rocky landscape, which is as exotic as it gets. The trout lake is the highest in the massif. It is located in a glacial cirque whose vertiginous walls will not fail to surprise you.

To reach the Lac Noir, follow the path through the high altitude landscapes with a clear view of the valleys below. The lake appears. You'll walk alongside it by the dam, but there's still so much to discover at its end. If you don't know it yet, this first encounter is an invitation for a next hike.

Leave the lake behind and follow the yellow rectangle path, called the Cornelius path. Once again, you will be fascinated by this section, which offers a completely different environment, sometimes even transporting you into a setting that can make you think of the jungle.

You reach the foot of Lac Blanc where the ridge where you were at the start dominates you. Go along the lake to reach the Col du Calvaire car park.

Kilometres in the legs, yes! But in a setting where the surrounding nature is so marvellous, you will feel a burst of energy even at the end!
To fully enjoy this beautiful hike, we advise you to go for the whole day with a packed lunch or a stop in an inn. Reservations are strongly recommended.
