Do you like the high altitude landscapes but fear the difficulty of getting there? This hike is for you! 5km are enough to reveal the beauty of the landscapes and to discover the essential during your passage to the Station of the White Lake.
From the Col du Calvaire car park, take the path (red circle) which will lead you to the natural terrace of Lac Blanc. Your efforts will be amply rewarded when you arrive, as you will be greeted by a real postcard landscape. A place that you will never stop admiring and photographing, from every angle. As you walk along the iconic Lac Blanc ridge, take time to slowly explore and observe. This is also one of the places where you can admire the geology of the area. Binoculars can be used to see the athlete of our mountains, the chamois, in the rock faces.
When you reach the source of the Lac Blanc, the coolest part of the walk, turn right. The path will give you access to the hautes-chaumes. Only a strip of vegetation marks the separation from the previous path and yet the landscape is radically different. A natural moor of callune and bilberry extends from your feet to the blue line of the Vosges. This section on the GR5 (red rectangle) reveals the emblematic features of the highland landscape. Soak up the beauty.
At the end of the Canez-Gazon du Faing Nature Reserve, you will find the path you came up on. Take a last look at the lake between the fir trees and return to the car park at the bottom of the path.
It will probably take you more than an hour to do this hike, not because it is difficult but because every detail will capture your attention. Nothing will escape your attention. On this tour, the connection with nature takes on its full meaning.
