Well known for their breathtaking beauty, there are always ways to make new discoveries around the White and Black Lakes. You already know them from above and below, what if today you took the paths that will lead you to their source?
From the Col du Calvaire, follow the red circle to reach the heights. The path runs along the crest of the Lac Blanc and gives you one of the most beautiful views of the lake with the expanse of the Alsace plain to the Black Forest in the background. Continue until you reach the first spring, that of Lac Blanc, where you will feel a not inconsiderable touch of freshness after the effort. Continue until you reach the big rocks that overhang the white lake. From here you can see the famous Hans Rock and its virgin below. Here you leave the red circle and branch off to the Belmont Observatory (yellow cross). At 1229m, this rock offers a nice view over the valley. At the next intersection, follow the blue circle that will lead you to the second spring. The path leads first to the crest of the lake, where it is impossible to ignore the splendid panorama, and then to a small magical spot where pure, transparent water flows peacefully down the mountain to its destination: the Lac Noir.
After this moment suspended out of time, join the upper reaches of the mountains by following the red-white-red rectangle. You will finish your journey on the GR5 (red rectangle) which will bring you back to the starting point by crossing the Tanet-Gazon du Faing nature reserve.
