Physalis

Following a lecture given by architect Marcel Kalberer at the first “Festival de la Soupe au Jardin” in 2006, the association “Un Jardin Passionnément” initiated the project of a living willow structure, inspired by the work of M.Kalberer and his team Sanfte Strukturen. This structure recreates the shape of the physalis (also called cape gooseberry), a plant whose papery covering resembles paper lanterns. Thousands of willow branches were used for the construction of Physalis, forming a natural theatre with a diameter of 24m peaking at 8m. The construction required 250 volunteers who worked under the guidance of Marcel Kalberer for 3 weeks in april 2013. This project was a real human adventure managed by the association “Un Jardin Passionnément.”
