Bourgeois cemetery

" For a mystical experience, head to the bourgeois cemetery. You'll find typical 19th century graves with wrought-iron crosses and carved headstones. "

The former burial ground of the bourgeoisie is located next to the parish church, inside the ditch that once protected this district. Now disused, it is listed in the Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques (Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments) as it retains a good number of 19th century burials: wrought iron crosses, sculpted steles, etc. In its centre, a monumental cross is dated 1673. The halo of Christ is made up of iron rays, formerly gilded, which recall the crown of Christ's head on the former large cross of the Saint Martin cemetery. Following its inscription, the old cemetery of Villé was redeveloped with a view to its conservation and enhancement. (Source: Historical Society of the Valley of Villé).
