Chappe Telegraph Tower

In 1794, France became the first country to have a telecommunications network, thanks to the aerial telegraph invented by Claude Chappe. From 1798 to 1852, the Saverne station was one of the links in the line between Paris and Strasbourg.

The Tower of the Old Chappe Telegraph explains how aerial telegraphy worked and the impact it had on the imagination of its contemporaries. A demonstration of the reconstructed apparatus and an interactive computer animation complete the presentation.
