Chappe Telegraph Tower - Exceptional closure until further notice
As early as 1794, France was the first country to own a telecommunications network thanks to the optical air telegraph invented by Claude Chappe. From 1798 to 1852, the station in Saverne was one of the essential links along the Paris-Strasbourg line. The tower of the Chappe former telegraph enables the visitor to understand how the air telegraph functioned and how it could fire the imagination of the people of that time. A demonstration of the reconstituted apparatus is given and the use of a computer with interactive touchscreens is available.
