Maison d'Offwiller

The Folk Art Museum of Offwiller is set up in the 18th century house of a small farmer. The living-room, or Gross Stub , is the heart of the house. The kitchen is furnished with ancient equipment and household wares. On the first floor are exhibited documents on the history, the social and religious life of the village, the tradition of Schieweschlawe (throwing the burning disc to attract the sun), the local costume and numerous everyday life objects. Agricultural machinery and craftsmen's tools are gathered in the barn. The whole process of producing fabrics from hemp and flax is illustrated by tools in working order. The cellar contains barrels, a wine-press and stills.
