Guided tour of the Four à Chaux fortress - Maginot Line

As part of the European Heritage Days. Built between 1930 and 1935, the Four-à-Chaux is one of the major sites of the Maginot Line in Alsace. This imposing mountain fortress, located on a limestone hill to the south of the town of Lembach, has around 5km of underground galleries and covers an area of 26ha. It housed 580 soldiers and has the particularity of being equipped with an inclined plane unique in Alsace.
The visitor will discover some of the equipment still in place and will fully understand the functioning and the role of the Maginot Line during the Second World War.
Guided tours in French at 10am, 2pm and 4pm. Guided tours in German at 10:30am, 1:30pm and 3:30pm.
Exhibition of American military equipment (vehicles, weapons, bivouacs, etc) dating from the Second World War by the HMRA association (Histoire Mémoire Reconstitution Alsace) in the site car park.
