Les Scènes Sauvages 7th edition - Theatre festival in the Bruche Valley

When the idea of creating a rural theater festival began to emerge in early 2017, I was convinced that I had the strength to move mountains, and I didn't think much of the obstacles that might then stand in the way. Today, I can't stop wondering what kind of small miracle the existence of Scènes Sauvages seems to be part of; while this enterprise might seem out of tune with the tumult of the crises we've been going through for the past six years, one relentlessly giving way to the next, I can't help but notice that something does work, and I can't stop wondering what moves spectators and encourages them to join forces for the duration of a show. What can theater do today? What can it do for the world? The potential of theater to influence real life, to change the life of human communities, is a question that has always been with me. As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted to experience it as closely as possible, by imagining a place with and for those who frequent it; a space for others before for oneself. A place for stories, a place for experimentation. A place for the utopias of the present, a place to prepare for the future. A place to continue learning, and above all learning to live together. A place to continue inventing other worlds. The possibility of other worlds. The possibility of desirable alternatives to the one we'd like to believe doesn't exist. Theater helps us to do this, now more than ever, and again, and again. Theater is the foundation of all possibilities. Theater is the foundation of the community of men and women of this Earth, and we never cease to be amazed by its permanence.
